Suzanne LaFleur was born in Southampton, NY. The area’s rich culture inspired her to pursue a career as an artist. She started her formal art training at the Art Students League of New York. There, she refined her craft under the tutelage of art luminaries such as Burton Silverman and Ephraim Rubenstein.
Shortly thereafter, Ms. LaFleur crossed the Atlantic to live in the Middle East and Europe. She spent several years abroad where she became a well-known artist on the Lebanese and Kuwaiti art scene. During this time, she exhibited in galleries, diplomatic embassies and exhibition halls throughout Europe and Asia. Ms. LaFleur’s work is in the private collections of royal families throughout the Middle East.
In 2008, Ms. LaFleur relocated to New York City where she currently lives. Most recently, Ms. LaFleur has garnered several prestigious awards for her work. She is a 2014 Guild Hall Museum prize-winning artist. In Summer 2014, Ms. LaFleur had a solo exhibition titled Serene Refuge at Lawrence Fine Art, East Hampton. She also exhibited at Art Hamptons and Art Southampton with Lawrence Fine Art and Hollis Taggart Galleries. At the National Arts Club in New York, she won the 2014 Art Spirit Foundation Gold Medal for Pastel. In 2013, the National Arts Club honored her with the Flora Giffuni Memorial Award for Pastel. That same year, Lawrence Fine Art presented Ms. LaFleur at the Park Avenue Armory, and the Benefit Print Project showed her work at PULSE New York Contemporary Art Fair and in Miami during Art Basel 2013. Ms. LaFleur was a guest panel speaker at the National Arts Club’s Sunday Salon: The Practice of Watercolor.
In 2012, Ms. LaFleur made her New York solo debut in the exhibition titled Untamed at Bogardus Mansion, New York. In 2010, she made her Chelsea debut in the two-person exhibition titled Constructed Spirits at Coleman Burke Gallery, New York. Other career highlights include: a private artist preview sponsored by Credit Suisse; a feature in the set design at NYC landmark Don’t Tell Momma Cabaret and Piano Bar; and two acclaimed solo exhibitions at Cipriani, Wall Street.
Ms. LaFleur is an Exhibiting Artist Member at the Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton and National Arts Club, New York and a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, New York.
